Galaxias Detection Report – 297-501-0001 ‘Castella Quarry’ & 297-501-0005 ‘Castella Hills’
A WOTCH survey was conducted on the 3rd January 2019 to assess the biodiversity values of a creek which flows into the Yea River in the Toolangi State Forest. An unidentified species of Galaxias was detected and documented on this survey, and was found in relative abundance along the creek in pooling sections. The creek borders two active logging coupes (297-501-0001 & 297-501-0005) which currently have roading contractors preparing the coupes for harvest. Contractors have pushed the road across the creek and are continuing to head south-east. If harvesting operations commence in the coupes there will be significant risks to the creek and the Galaxias population as logging trucks & machinery will cross the creek for operations.
