Greater Glider & Yellow-Bellied Glider Detection Report – 484-501-0002 'Vernal'

At the submission date of this report (17/06/2018), nearby clearfell logging coupes 484-501-0001 and 484-501-0026 have either, just finished logging operations, or are coming very close to the end of logging operations. Faith Creek is the north-western boundary of coupe 484-501-0001 and on 28/05/2018 a report was submitted to the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), detailing the presence of seven Greater Gliders and a Powerful Owl (Ninox strenua) recorded within the boundaries of this coupe (case reference number 2018-0034). The western boundary of coupe 484-501-0026 is a tributary of Long creek and on 16/05/2018 a report was submitted to the DELWP, detailing the presence of five Greater Gliders and a Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) recorded within the boundaries of this coupe (case reference number 2018-0031). Due to the lack of protection for each of the above species in the Central Highlands FMA’s prescription, the DELWP did not take action to protect these areas of threatened species habitat, and they are now lost or in the process of being lost.
